'Tīeke Aroha' (saddleback) limited edition print

from NZ$140.00

‘Tīeke Aroha’ (Saddleback Love) is an artwork that expresses the love a family has for one another. The saddleback are looking affectionately to one another, with an adult pictured above and a young juvenile below. They are perched on a kawakawa branch; saddleback like to feed on the tree but additionally the kawakawa has beautiful heart shaped leaves, representing love and the special connection a parent and their child has.

Hannah individually photographed the two birds on Tiritiri Matangi Island – a predator-free, bird haven off the coast of Whangaparāoa, near Auckland. She combined the saddleback photos with the kawakawa which she studied from a tree in her garden. Today these beautiful native wattlebirds are thankfully recovering due to conservation work done by many. Before Europeans arrived with predators such as stoats and ship rats, they were widespread and abundant throughout New Zealand; soon after however, they were reduced to just a single population of 500 birds on Hen Island in the early 1900s! Luckily, with the introduction of pest-free islands and predator-fenced mainland sites, they are able to breed successfully and also safely forage for their food.

Limited edition fine art giclée print produced in New Zealand using the highest quality archival paper, inks and processes. Each print is hand signed and numbered by Hannah.
