If you’re interested in a unique custom artwork, Hannah takes on a handful of New Zealand native bird commissions each year. A commission can be more than just an artwork, it’s an opportunity to create something meaningful for the client that can be a gift or have special significance.

Because of the level of detail required in each drawing, Hannah works from a reference photo/s to create her artworks. This may also include reference photos of additional plants or trees, and may combine multiple birds photos into a final composition. These photos can be from the following sources:

  1. Hannah can draw from her own extensive library of bird photography.

  2. She may be able to travel to seek out a particular bird if a suitable reference photo is not available.

  3. She can also work from clients reference images, provided there is permission from the photographer.

  4. Hannah can source an image from her network of native NZ bird photographers (note: POA – will vary depending on the photographers licensing fee).

Alongside drawing, Hannah dedicates time into researching the chosen bird/s to learn how to best depict their special characteristics into her artwork. With each artwork generally taking a month to create, commissions are very limited and the lead time will vary. I was drawn to Hannah’s artwork when my daughters and I had visited Zealandia one day. I contacted her about commissioning an artwork and right from the start Hannah was engaged in the process of creating the best art that she could for us. I wanted a piece that represented my three daughters and Hannah had great ideas but she also made sure she understood what I wanted and got to know my daughters as individuals as well. Hannah is incredibly talented and it was a joy to see our artwork develop while she worked on it. When the “Life’s Little Treasures” was finished we were really pleased with it and loved how she captured the personalities in each manu. Hannah has, whether she intended to or not, provided our family with an artwork that we will treasure forever.
