Hannah Shand is an artist from the Kapiti Coast who specialises in realistic pen drawings, with a passion for native New Zealand birds. Using her art and photography skills to showcase the beauty of NZ’s native flora and fauna, Hannah hopes to inspire others to care about our wildlife.
She actively works with conservation groups and bird sanctuaries to promote awareness about their crucial work, and raise funds by selling her fine-art prints. These include Zealandia Ecosanctuary, Forest & Bird and Sanctuary Mountain. She also donates to and fundraises for other conservation groups such as Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust, Nga Uruora, and Capital Kiwi. Her artwork is also stocked in beautiful galleries throughout NZ, including Waiorua Gallery on Kapiti Island, Inspirit Studio & Gallery, Quirky Fox, Artel, Moko Artspace, and others.
Hannah creates original and commissioned artworks in A4 to A1 size, with each artwork taking two to five weeks, as she carefully renders the fine details to bring to life each bird’s unique characteristics. She also produces hand-signed and numbered limited edition prints, made in Wellington using the highest quality archival paper, inks and processes.
Aside from drawing and birdwatching, Hannah can be found participating in solo and group exhibitions, collaborating in projects with other artists, and sharing her videos and photos on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and her blog.
